This custom-built, post and beam, timber frame home is situated on three quarters of an acre by the exclusive Georgian Bay Club – a location graced with natural beauty and views that the homeowner wanted to showcase.

When the client approached GJ Custom Contracting, they brought detailed plans and a distinct vision. The client wanted to build an elegant, yet rustic family home for entertaining friends and hosting family gatherings. The client employed Legendary Logcrafters to assist them in the home’s design and entrusted GJ Custom Contracting to bring their vision into reality.

The resulting space is uniquely rustic with arching 28-foot cathedral ceilings and large, exposed timber beams, yet equipped with all the modern conveniences the client required. Beyond the initial plan design, the client also played a crucial role in the interior design and finishes. The GJ team remained in constant communication with the client to involve and continually update them during each and every phase of the project.

From the hand-scraped hickory floors, to the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace to the custom Downsview Kitchens cabinetry installed throughout, the entire home mirrors the client’s vision and reflects the professionalism and craftsmanship of GJ Custom Contracting.

This contemporary chalet is located in the prestigious Nipissing Ridge area with views to Georgian Bay. Custom designed by Jakop Design Inc, the entire project was managed and executed by GJ Custom Contracting.

The goal of this custom build was to create a lifestyle home where the outside surroundings meet and seamlessly mesh with the home’s interior. When the home owner purchased the land, the vision was to construct a home that would pay homage to the simplicity and serenity of the landscape. The skillful use of natural wood and stone graces both the interior and exterior of the home to accomplish this goal. Working with local vendors, GJ Custom Contracting was able to source the variety of natural stone, marble, and oak used throughout the home.

A must-have for the family was a large, open gathering space in which to entertain family and friends. The stunning 20 foot interior stone wall and 4 foot linear wood burning fireplace with steel surround grace the home’s great room. The chalet features exquisite design elements and luxury details such as a glass-enclosed dry sauna, a chef’s gourmet kitchen with custom Downsview Kitchens cabinetry, and a landscaped entertaining area with outdoor swim spa that seems to suspend over the wooded ravine lot.

The home is a perfect example of a client’s vision brought to reality.

  3. Pottery Restaurant – Blue Mountain

Comments Off on Pottery Restaurant – Blue Mountain

The client, having worked with GJ Custom Contracting on Blue Mountain Resort projects before, did not hesitate to contact the GJ team with their Pottery Restaurant renovation project. The client wanted the restaurant and kitchen to undergo a complete transformation to deliver a modern and sophisticated dining experience. They brought forth plans to modernize and add an element of sophistication to the Pottery Restaurant, which is located in the Blue Mountain Inn.

The client also required that the restaurant renovation blend well with the other renovations taking place throughout the Blue Mountain Inn. To achieve this goal, GJ Custom Contracting designed and built elements that were reminiscent of design elements they installed within the Inn’s lobby. As an example, the custom-built hostess desk with Caesar stone and marble accents mirrors the lobby front desk. Additional design features include timber accents, custom-built, curved bench seating for booths, and harvest tables. The entire kitchen was stripped out, redesigned, and outfitted with top-of-the line equipment, making it a space in which the chef and supporting staff love to create.

Throughout the process, the GJ Custom Contracting team regularly met with the client and engineers to determine each element of the design. They also worked closely with the VP and Director of Engineering to ensure the project stayed on track, on budget, and was completed on time.

The restaurant now features a light, bright, contemporary interior brimming with rustic charm.

From beginning to end, the GJ Custom Contracting team was pleased to be part of the renovation project that breathed new life into the lobby of the original Blue Mountain Inn. The client, recognizing the dated look of the hotel lobby, wanted to revamp the entire space to provide a sleek and modern design. As a first class resort, they realized a sophisticated hotel lobby was critical as this was the first impression their guests received.
Beyond the dated interior finishes, the layout did not efficiently utilize the space. The GJ team redesigned the layout to maximum effect, which involved removing a main building interior support wall to provide an open concept.
In keeping with the renovations occurring throughout the Blue Mountain Inn, GJ Custom Contracting, worked closely with the client (engineers, the VP and Director of Engineering)to ensure the newly proposed design blended well and met the diverse needs for the space.
Beautiful design elements include herring bone tiled floors, bench seating, and a custom, Caesar stone feature wall and front desk.
At project completion, the client was not only thrilled with the outcome, but also proud to welcome guests to the hotel.

  6. The Smoke Eatery Collingwood

Comments Off on The Smoke Eatery Collingwood

GJ Custom Contracting was contracted by the owner and chef of The Smoke to completely transform a former retail space into what is now a traditional, award-winning BBQ featuring indoor BBQ smokers made possible through a custom-designed HVAC system.

When the client contacted GJ Custom Contracting, they were armed with plans for the design, but knew they had a formidable job ahead. The GJ Custom Contracting team took over the lead to manage the project from start to finish, while keeping the client informed along the way.

The client wanted to put their personal stamp on the restaurant, so they brought in an interior designer for assistance in selecting design elements and colours. The GJ team worked closely with the interior designer to ensure the client’s vision was realized. Custom elements created by the GJ Custom Contracting team include an impressive staircase with corrugated metal railing.
The project required coordination with other sub-trades for specific construction and interior finishing elements, so GJ Custom Contracting remained in close contact with all sub-trades through to project completion.

The Smoke Eatery remains a popular destination in downtown Collingwood for locals and visitors alike.
