The Roost Winery
The Roost Winery – Town of Blue Mountains
The Roost Winery project was a welcome challenge for the GJ Custom Contracting team. This huge project entailed a complete conversion of a 19th Century barn into a multi-level winery that houses a full wine production and holding area (lower level) and a beautiful event space with a tasting bar and private tasting rooms (main level).
As the general contractors for the entire project, the GJ team was excited to tackle such a unique and complex project that was completed in two different phases.
On the lower level, the GJ team removed concrete floors and installed a custom draining system designed for wine production. They also moved and reinstalled the walls and ceiling to accommodate the specialized equipment. The GJ Team completed the lower level of the barn specifically for ‘wine production’ where the Roost staff processing the grapes and produces the wines for which they have become very popular.
Before the event space could be built, the GJ Custom Contracting team first needed to prepare the barn by ensuring it was structurally sound then insulating, building interior walls and defining the spaces. On the main level, all new flooring, drywall, and windows were installed and the beautiful space started to take shape. The post and beam detail within the main level is stunning, paying tribute to the barn’s history. The tasting bar contains custom cabinetry and the entire space is fitted with elements to maintain the barn’s rustic charm inside and out.
The barn’s exterior has been carefully restored. The GJ Custom Contracting team created a wooden canopy to define the large entryway and added a stone façade built with Armour stone. The surrounding grounds were landscaped complete with a stone patio, retaining wall built with Armour stone. Finally, the GJ team graded the parking areas and poured a large concrete pad for parking lot/material handling.
The client now has a building to showcase their wines that is as unique and delightful as the wines they produce.
